Genre Research: Horror

Horror in my opinion is the most complex genre out of the others. It is also my second favorite after comedies. In this PowerPoint I go over the elements of the genre horror. I start off with the lighting that goes into horror. The lighting in this genre is a huge factor, it gives off a feel only horror can give. It is very important when you want to emphasize areas or scenes in the film. After this we go onto camera angles. Cameras angle like close ups and POV shots are seen a lot in horror movies. This is because of the effect they give; camera angles are important for all genres. They are used for a number of reasons. From showing the setting of a scene, to giving the mood of the scene. We then move onto camera movements. Movements and angles are similar, but different. They can also be used to show the setting and mood, but in different ways. For example, with pan or tracking scenes. One big tracking scene is in the movie The Shining. The boy is being tracked through the hallways on his tricycle. This showing the setting of the hotel they are in. Finally we have Mis-en-scene, which consists of costumes, makeup, and props. these are also very unique when coming to horror movies. They use these the most extreme out of every genre. Which just makes the movie that much better.
