Genre Research: Lord of the Flies

What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?

This film is a survival film, just like the movie I want to create. It is about a group of kids stranded on an island all alone. They have to work together and use their heads to survive. They manage to create weapons' to use that help them live. Some of them start to fight each other. it is a struggle for life that is similar to mine. The constant fight to survive out in the wilderness.



What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?
I liked a lot of the elements that were in this movie. They had lots of wide shots that show off the background and setting of the movie. The lighting is usually very dark in survival movies. This is because it is supposed to seem natural with only natural lighting. For example, the moon, fire, and the sun are natural lighting. In this movie they managed to give it a brighter set which I think shows details much better. 


What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?
There weren't many elements in this movie that I didn't like. It was a little dramatic at times that it did not need to be. And maybe since there children it was childish at some parts. But that's what you'd  expect since they are kids. This was a very good movie and I enjoyed it a lot. I also got a few ideas that I might use in my filming project.

Film day #2 Part 1

 Today is our second day of filming for this project. We had planned to get some extra work done today. First things first I had to get ready for Sonalis house. All I had to do was get changed, grab cloths, and get over there. After gathering everything up I headed over to Sonalis to get to work. When I got to Sonalis we started to discuss what we had to do. We had a few different ideas what to start with. We decided to start with some of our long takes. These were takes that were hard to follow the script for. so for most of these we improvised what we were saying but still staying on the topic. A long take in my opinion is one that was more than 30 seconds. We had a good amount of these scenes. The reason for so many long takes is because of how long our film was. If we had only small scenes it would make it a lot harder to meet our time requirement. These long shots were  actually pretty fun in my opinion. Final Task: More Info

  Schedule March 2nd - I will start finalizing all my plans and ideas for filming and let my film crew know I will start soon. March 4th - I will start filming the beginning scenes that I only need to set my phone up somewhere. For example scenes like the beginning scenes that the credits will flow over. March 7th - I will finish up the filming that I can do alone and start to focus on the bigger scenes and shots. My parents and siblings will be the film crew that will help me here and there.  March 12th-15th - During this time I plan on finishing up most of the filming that I need to do. There will be some scenes that I want to switch out and redo, so this will not be the last time filming.  March 16th - I will start to upload all my shots and clips to OpenShot. This is my editing soft where that I will be using.  March 18th - After uploading all of my shots, I will look at all of my shots to see if they are good or not.   What titles are displayed in the opening sequences? The 20th century Fox is shown in the very beginning of the film. There is also the name that shows up after few scenes. The movie starts off at a zoo it looks like. There are a few credit scenes that show up with actors and important roles. What images are prioritized during the opening sequences? Images with animals are heavily prioritized in the beginning of the film. showing beautiful animals prancing and moving around everywhere. What connotations do these images carry? These images carry a free and fresh connotation. They have cute animals jumping around in front of the cammera. How does the film establish a feeling from the genre from the outset? The film showing a lot of wilderness may something that establishes the genre.
