Title Research: The Martian

What titles are displayed in the opening sequences?

The movie starts off with the main character waking up on what we can guess is mars. We see he is impaled by a piece of some equipment. He goes back to base where he then takes the scrap out and staples hi wound. The title we see in the beginning is the name of the film, "The Martian".

What images are prioritized during the opening sequences?

Images that are prioritized during the opening scenes were quick scenes to get the films plot started. They were simple and easy to understand. They were scenes that showed off the setting of the movie well, for example his base, and the landscape.

What connotations do these images carry?

These images carry a hopeless and confused connotation. He wakes up badly injured not knowing what is going on. There is no one around him and he doesn't know where they went. You could infer that his mind is probably chaotic thinking what could have happened.

How does the film establish a feeling from the genre from the outset?

He is all alone and injured, his supplies are low and he doesn't know what's going on. That is exactly what a survival is. He is going to have to find a way to make and gather supplies on his own.

What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

Using scenes to sow what the movie will be about. Also what the setting will be as well. This way the audience can see this and use it as reference if it will be something they like.

How has technology been used effectively?

There was some crazy technology in this movie. CGI was used a lot to make scenes like the rocket scenes. And the landscape was filmed in a huge desert somewhere. There was also some crazy editing used for most of the sound effects and scenes.
