Production Blog: Costume Design

Image
As I stated before there was a lot of set up needed for all of this to be done. I ended off last saying how I had problems with my camera crew. My little sister ended up helping me out with everything. She did pretty well I'm not going to lie. She was a little shaky with some scenes but still got it done. She even said she enjoyed filming it. We had to reshoot a lot of the shots. Since she is so short we had to improvise for a lot of the scenes. There were a lot of times were I couldn't get the right angle because of how short she is. We often had to bring a stepping stool around with us while we were filming. She helped me get done with about 2/3 of all my filming. I couldnt get everything done because of my family being out of town. Another thing that I didn't mention was my outfit changes. When we first started filming a few shots I didn't realize I had on different cloths on. So we had to change and reshoot them in the right attire. My outfit is something that suit...

Production Blog: Background Trouble

Image
I got a lot of stuff done over my small break. There was gathering all my props, making small script changes, and of course the filming itself. But, with all of this, there is a lot of set up required. For example it took a while trying to find the right stuff I could use for my props. It also took a while trying to find a good cameraman. The thing that took the longest was for sure finding a quite time in the day to film everything. There were so many times were some background noise totally messed up my shots. I had 3 dogs that were staying at my house. Only one of them is mine but we were watching the others. My dog is generally pretty quite, but when other dogs bark he goes crazy. The two other dogs we were watching were the loudest size to bark you could find.  They were super small but incredibly yappy and loud. They would bark at anything and everything. So you can imagine how hard it was to keep them quite. I had to wake up early just to start anything. The other prob...

Production Blog: Cameraman Selection

Image
In my last blog I explained how I had just finished up a few scenes from the beginning of the film. I only did a small portion. This filming was done by myself. It was a portion where I just had the camera set up on a chair. I had to mess around with the angle a bunch of times. I had tried to use a stool on top of one of my family room chairs. That didn't work out how I wanted it to so I scrapped that idea. I even ended up trying to use a big ladder from outside. I still couldn't get a good shot from there because there was no way to keep my phone at the angle I wanted. I asked my dad what he thought, so we started to brainstorm. We came with the idea to use a nearby counter. And I know what your thinking, why couldn't he just hold the phone. Well my parents and sister are going on a trip to go look at colleges over spring break. So there are going to be gone for quite a long time. I cant let this time to go to waste so I had to get some filming done. This was my only opti...

Production Blog: Practice Makes Perfect

Image
I just finished up a little bit more filming for this project. I got a couple good scenes in that I think turned out nice. I looked a little awkward just sitting there. I had to look through these bags with some clothes in them and just some random water bottles. I had to improvise a lot when messing with the stuff. There was a lot of just staring and moving things around. I had to reshoot a bunch of times. The audio isn't the best for pretty much all of the scenes. Whenever the phone is more than a couple feet away it isn't to clear. But, it is what you would expect from a phone microphone. So it actually didn't turn out bad when looking at my equipment. Of course pretty much everything would be better if I had better equipment. The first couple of scenes were a little slow and awkward like I said before. But, I did what I could, and Ill only get better of course. Each time I film I pick up new little tips and tricks to use for my next time. For example I pretty much have...

Production Blog: House Setup

Last time I was taking some shots from my roof. After taking some of the title shots now I'm planning on starting up some of the actual scenes. This week I want to get a few of the starting scenes with just me. So I wont need to have anyone else help me with filming. I have a lot of work this week. There is a quarter test for math and it is a big grade. I need to do good on it so I don't have to much time. All of my math work will be done by this Friday. So this weekend is when I can get some filming done. I want to do the scene where I am packing up my gear and equipment for my trip. I need to find something to set my phone up on to get a better angle. Without it its to low of an angle to get me with all my bags in it. There is a counter there so I think I can put a chair or stool up on the counter. Worst can scenario I can just ask someone to film it fore me. I have a feeling that this is going to take a lot of shots to get right. I'm not the best at acting or anything s...

Production Blog: Background Scenes

Image
I was just able to start my filming now. I was not able to get any filming done before because of a few reasons. I was pretty much booked on time so I never go the chance to film anything. Luckily I just had the perfect opportunity to get some really nice shots. I got the shots I wanted to use for the opening and credit scenes. They were the once I discussed earlier about going up to my roof and getting high angle shots and wide shots. There was a really nice sunset yesterday and that was the last thing I needed to be able to get these shots. So right before the sunset I had to get everything ready so I could go up there. I had to get the ladder and some good shoes to climb up there. Also I decided to use my moms phone since it has a better camera than mine. So when the time was right I went up to the roof and got to the position that was right for the shot. I've been up on the roof plenty of times before so I was pretty comfortable. If I wasn't, taking a good shot would have ...

Production Blog: First Impressions

Image
This will start off my first filming and editing blog for my final task. I have not started to film or edit yet. My filming crew (aka my parents) have not had time to help me yet with any of the big filming. There were a few beginning scenes that I was thinking of filming today. But this whole week I've had football practice. By the time I get home from practice it is already to dark to film. I'm planning to commence my filming by this weekend and get a small beginning portion done. I have a few good ideas that I need to try out for the background of the title scenes. This idea requires some parental supervision though. My idea is to get a few High Angle shots from my roof. Ill climb up there when the sun is low and get a few nice shots from up there. These will be good for the background because they will show off a little bit of the setting. As well as being some nice aesthetic scenes that will be very nice as a background. Of course as I stated I will need my dad to come wi...

Final Task: Storyboard

Image
I underestimated how long this story board would take to create. I planned on giving my self a few hours to do this but still ended up not finishing it in time. I have never been an artist throughout my life. But I was actually surprised by some of the boxes that I created. I'm going to start filming these scenes soon and hope they come out how I'm expecting. I might change up a few things for the scenes, for example I was thinking of putting a silhouette of a person instead of the L in "ALONE". My favorite box has to be the scene that I'm planning to shoot from my roof. Looking over my backyard during a sunset, and I think I drew it pretty well knowing my skill.

Final Task: More Info

Image
Schedule March 2nd - I will start finalizing all my plans and ideas for filming and let my film crew know I will start soon. March 4th - I will start filming the beginning scenes that I only need to set my phone up somewhere. For example scenes like the beginning scenes that the credits will flow over. March 7th - I will finish up the filming that I can do alone and start to focus on the bigger scenes and shots. My parents and siblings will be the film crew that will help me here and there.  March 12th-15th - During this time I plan on finishing up most of the filming that I need to do. There will be some scenes that I want to switch out and redo, so this will not be the last time filming.  March 16th - I will start to upload all my shots and clips to OpenShot. This is my editing soft where that I will be using.  March 18th - After uploading all of my shots, I will look at all of my shots to see if they are good or not. If I see a few mistakes throughout the shots ...

They will fade in an out of the screen. They will be centered in the middle of the screen at all times. Most of the credits will be displayed on a black background. I have come up with a few ideas and might have a few shots of the setting as the background. The likely title of the film will be "Alone". I am planning on doing a cool design where I take the "L" in alone and replace it with a black silhouette of a person or a knife. This might be a little tricky to do but with the editing soft where I may be able to. The font f...
