Filming Blog for my Music Video

Image
The filming for this project was a bit of a challenge and was very tedious. Having to film everything in my room and by my self came up with its own problems. This song is very slow so it was hard to come up with filming techniques and shots to come up with. I planned to do some filming in new York when it snowed. It ended up only snowing at night. And it didn't look as good as if were to be snowing at the time. So I just stuck with the shots that I took in my room a few days before. The best shot was from my ceiling fan. It took so many tries but ended up working after a while and looked really good. I'm not good at filming and have really never done it before. So I'm happy with what I was able to come up with. As I explained before setting up the camera was very hard to do to be able to get the camera angle I liked. After creating the storyboard I had all the ideas in mind that I wanted. So after that it was just down to making the shots happen. This would have been much...

Story Board for Music Video

Image
When making this story board I thought it was going to be hard to figure out what to write about. I didn't think I could fill all 12 boxes. I thought a lot to come up with ideas. Maybe I could film in New York. But if I were to film in New York I wouldn't have time to edit enough. So I knew I had to come up with something. I knew the materials that I wanted to use so this helped a lot when coming up with ideas. One scene that I knew I had to film for this song was the high angle shot. It could have ended up better though. Since the angle of the fan blade is not straight the filming came out crooked. So I thought I could either try and edit this which might not work out. Or I could come up with a different way to film. I tried to take the phone to my ceiling but it would not stay and things were in the way. Then I thought about contradicting the angle of the fan blade. I put a Chapstick in between the my phone and the blade so it was at a little better angle. All I had to do no...

Planning for my Music Video

Image
The song I'm going to be making a video about is called In My Room by Frank Ocean. This song is Hip hop but you may be able to see it as a little of retro. The base instruments are quite and relaxing. Props that I want to use in this video are different lights, a football maybe to through around, and some headphones. I'm thinking of doing something where I'm chilling listening to music in my room. Either spinning around in my chair or throwing the football to my self. Or even just watching something on my computer or working on it. I think these would all go well with the song I chose. The lighting will be mostly dark and maybe if I can have some colorful lights. Ill be wearing something super casual. Like a jacket with some shorts on, or a t shirt and some pants. And for new York its going to be super cold. So ill be wearing lots of layers, like a big jacket on top of a long sleeve jacket and some jeans or other pants. I'm planning on filming throughout this whole wee...

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
Conventions of a song can vary from many different things. From the theme of the song, as well as the mood and setting. This song is one you would imagine listening to driving down a straight rode with a starry sky. Or when your relaxing in your room with colorful LED lights flashing starring at your ceiling. It is one of my favorite songs for a reason. It makes you feel so relaxed and chill. Id say it isn't like normal songs, it has a different feel to it. This song has more of a dark setting to it. This is only because of how slow and relaxed it is. Compared to a song that's energetic and rowdy would have a bright setting to it. This is going to be a hard video to make. Not a lot comes to mind what to film about when thinking about this song. I know one things for sure, its going to be slow going and chill. I might do an angle where I put the camera on my fan going really slow around my room. I would be laying down on my bed mouthing the words out. There isn't many thing...

Introduction to the music video project

Image
I'm going to be working by myself for this project. I'm not aloud to see anyone because of the pandemic. I cant get anyone in my family sick. I usually work well by myself, I don't like it as much or enjoy the project as much. I had to do my last projects alone because of the same reason. A big loss that I get from being alone during the project is the filming aspect. I need someone to film and I cant act and film at the same time how I want too. A pro to working alone is not having to argue about ideas. this can also be a con as well. Having more people to go over ideas and brainstorm to come up with better ideas. The song that I chose for this project is called In My Room by Frank Ocean. This might be a little hard to make a music video about but ill just have to make it work. This is one of my favorite songs right now. Its not to long either so it might not be that bad. I will need to find a clean version though it has a few curse words. Since I like the song I think it...

Reflection Questions

Image
1. In this project most people had a group or someone to help out with the work. I didn't though, all of the ideas came from me. I bet a lot of other students have done Gatorade commercials in the past. But I don't think they went to the extent I have. I played every part in this commercial. I had to make do with what equipment I had and the space I had. I could not go to a field or any parks to have more room. As well as me having to do all the physical stuff as well too. In all the shots I took when I was creating the scenes where I had to run a football route, it got very tiering. On the positive note my project may be different because of the transitions, I also really like the background music I added to it. 2. My product engages with the audience with the music mostly. The background music adds so much to this project I think without it, it  would not be very good at all. listening to music I think is a calming and Happy place. It can also be energetic or get you exited. ...

Commercial project

Image
This was my first big project that I've done in this class. I worked on it by myself which made it a little more difficult, but not to bad. This meant I had to improvise a lot where other groups with more people wouldn't have too. For example when filming I didn't have another person in my group to film for me. I had to get both of my parents to help out. Also if I had another member they could help me brainstorm ideas and other things. In my opinion that is the biggest drawback of working alone. You don't have anyone to help you come up with ideas and ways to improve. Yeah you can get your parents to a little, but they would never do it to the extent someone in your group would that's being graded on it. There are many aspects I could improve on if I were to do this project or one similar to it. To start off I would definitely choose a better setting to film. My backyard is big, but there are just to many obstacles. They got in the way of some shots as well as rest...

Editing Blog: the Catch

Image
Editing this project was especially hard to do. With all the different shots we took for this, I couldn't remember which ones I wanted to use. I kept on getting them mixed up. On top of that my editing soft where was acting up. It kept on buffering and playing all my clips super slow. I tried to restart my computer an that still didn't work. One thing that finally worked was saving my project and closing it. Once I opened it back up it seemed to work well. finding background music was also a problem. It was hard to find some that suited my commercial. Also converting it into a specific file was a little tricky. When I got it to work it would play to loud. Then I had to figure out how to get into the properties menu, which wasn't the easiest. There are so many different little things you can do to edit and can get very complicated. When trying to make the transitions it was hard to make it not choppy. Since all the shots are so small it makes it more complicated. Making the ...
