Title Research: Cast Away

Image
What titles are displayed in the opening sequences? The name of the movie "Cast Away" is displayed in the opening sequence. The movie starts off with a POV of a package being mailed from one person to another. After a few mailing scenes we reach the main character, Tom Hanks. He seems to be a big figure in his company at Fedex.  What images are prioritized during the opening sequences? Images like Pov scenes and shots showing lots of characters are prioritized. We get to see a lot of people in the opening sequence. What connotations do these images carry? These images carry a busy but steady flow of life. They show a bunch of guys during their jobs normally.  You can sense a little bit of ramped energy and power from Tom because of his job status I'm guessing. How does the film establish a feeling from the genre from the outset? In the begging I don't see a lot of correlation between the scenes and the genre at all. There really isn't a lot of clues to it being ...

Title Research: The Martian

Image

He goes back to base where he then takes the scrap out and staples hi wound. The title we see in the beginning is the name of the film, "The Martian". What images are prioritized during the opening sequences? Images that are prioritized during the opening scenes were quick scenes to get the films plot started. They were simple and easy to understand. They were scenes that showed off the setting of the movie well, for example his base, and the landscape. What connotations do these images carry? These images carry a hopeless and confused connotation. He wakes up badly injured not knowing what is going on. There is no one around him and he doesn't know where they went. You could infer that his mind is probably chaotic thinking what could have happened. How does the film establish a feeling...

Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

Image
This website was similar to the other one in a couple of ways. It was also different in a few too. You could go into separate tv shows, films, and even video games. There were also a lot of specialists in title sequences. This was a similarity between the two. Fist I decided to look at the tv shows. None of them that I really knew of but recognize the names. I looked into some of them and got some good examples. Then I decided to look into some of the people. The person I chose was a guy named Aaron Becker. He was a professional and extremely good at what he does. It went through a bunch of his best work and how he did them.

Title Research: Art of the Title Website

Image
I am on this site to learn more about titles. The first thing I did on this site was scroll down to figure what the site was about. After a little of scrolling and clicking around I found something to research. It was a article of the best title sequences of 2020. I read the entire thing and thought it was really good. I learned some valuable information about title sequences. For example, what makes a title sequence good and key elements in them. Of course there were the 10 examples of title sequences. so looking at this I got the best visual examples to learn from. This is all information that is useful and I will use.

Genre Research: Cast Away

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? This movie is a dramatic survival, or a drama/survival. This was about a fed-ex delivery man that was flying with cargo. They ran into a storm which ended up to them crashing into an ocean. He managed to escape on a little raft with little to no supplies. He then goes through the biggest struggle in his life to overcome hardships. His ultimate goal was to return home and see his wife again. That ended up being the only thing pushing him forward to keep on trying. The elements in this movie are the best. I would like to think I can adopt a few of them into my film. Including the drive he has by loved ones, and his pure struggle. If I had more time in my film and more resources I would one hundred percent use more elements. What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? This is one of my favorite movies and by far my favorite survival movie. All, the plot, execution, and the act...

Genre Research: The Martian

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? This movie is a mix between a sci-fi film and a survival film. A man is abandoned on Mars and has no way of creating food. His crew thought he had died and was now on their way back to earth. He also had no way of communicating with anyone. Some elements my film will have will be the no communication and being stranded. I think these elements can make a really interesting film. Mine will of course have others, but those are the similar ones mine will have.  What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? This movie was rly good, I loved the plot as well as the actors in it. They pace it well and make it very enjoyable, adding comedy and other small snippets of other genres. The main character uses his brain to create some pretty amazing things. He even was able to grow plants in the movie.  What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you? This was di...

Genre Research: Lord of the Flies

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? This film is a survival film, just like the movie I want to create. It is about a group of kids stranded on an island all alone. They have to work together and use their heads to survive. They manage to create weapons' to use that help them live. Some of them start to fight each other. it is a struggle for life that is similar to mine. The constant fight to survive out in the wilderness. What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? I liked a lot of the elements that were in this movie. They had lots of wide shots that show off the background and setting of the movie. The lighting is usually very dark in survival movies. This is because it is supposed to seem natural with only natural lighting. For example, the moon, fire, and the sun are natural lighting. In this movie they managed to give it a brighter set which I think shows details much better.  What elements of the genre d...

Genre Research: Survival

Image
I decided to choose the survival genre for this project. I have always loved this genre, especially in books. I think the only reason I read books when I was younger is because of these survival books. I'm pretty sure I re-read the entire I Survived series 3 or 4 times over. This is also going to be a genre that I think will be super fun to film about. It is only the first two minutes of the film, but that is usually really good in setting up the film. They usually get to the plot of the movie fairly quick. I have some good ideas for my film. Some of them are going to be hard to film and I don't know how I will for half of them. I live on a canal so this also opens up a lot of possibilities. The big problem is definitely going to be figuring out how I'm going to film these ideas. Most likely my parents will be filming for me, or my siblings. Since I do not have a group. I will find out ways though I am pretty confident. I can already come up with a few ideas to solve this ...

Genre Research: Romance & Comedy

Image
I will start off with the genre romance. A common CAMS in romance films is close ups. This is seen a lot when showing a lot of emotion on a characters face. There is also the two shot, this happens a lot when they are getting the two main characters in one shot. Also used to show the setting they are in. Some common lighting examples are up lighting and silhouette lighting. This is seen a lot in kissing scenes which are inevitable in romance films. Common editing in romance includes raining effects and wind effects showing a dramatic scene. Some film examples are the Titanic, Gone with the wind, and Beauty and the Beast. Some elements that I like are the character development that happens in the film. Some elements I don't like are the over dramatic scenes. Now with comedy, common CAMS in this genre are POV shots and hand held shots. Also wide shots and track shots, which can show the setting very well. Common lighting in comedies are sun lighting, a natural lighting. Some common ...

Genre Research: Horror

Horror in my opinion is the most complex genre out of the others. It is also my second favorite after comedies. In this PowerPoint I go over the elements of the genre horror. I start off with the lighting that goes into horror. The lighting in this genre is a huge factor, it gives off a feel only horror can give. It is very important when you want to emphasize areas or scenes in the film. After this we go onto camera angles. Cameras angle like close ups and POV shots are seen a lot in horror movies. This is because of the effect they give; camera angles are important for all genres. They are used for a number of reasons. From showing the setting of a scene, to giving the mood of the scene. We then move onto camera movements. Movements and angles are similar, but different. They can also be used to show the setting and mood, but in different ways. For example, with pan or tracking scenes. One big tracking scene is in the movie The Shining. The boy is being tracked through the hallw...

I had a few ideas for this project, and I think they are all good. I will start off with my first one. It is about a boy who runs away from home after a huge fight with his parents. He really isn't into school and doesn't try hard at all. His parents find out he is failing most of his classes and punish him by not letting him see his friends. The boy then gets mad and puts his anger on his parents. He ends up breaking an expensive painting in their house. The parents are super mad and beat him. That nigh he decides he is going to run away. The cliffhanger would end with his walking out the door with his bags in hand. The second idea is my favorite. It is about a boy that goes on a ship to meet some family friends. It is his dads small boat so it is a little risky but he decides to take that risk. The boat has a problem and ends up quitting in the ocean. He then has to find a way to get to a nearby island that he sees. He is stranded on the boat only letting the current take hi...

For this project I'm going to be working by myself. I'm still  not able to see people right now because of the the pandemic. I wish I was able to work with friends on this, it would make it easier and help out with the workload. Working in a group is better in a lot of ways, for example, when you have more people the work is split up. There are more people that can help with creating the theme and storyboard of the film. There are also more people to help type work up and film the project. But, there are also a few drawbacks to having a group. Since you have a group to work with you have to rely and trust that your partners will pull through and finish all the work assigned to them. This happens a lot in groups, one group member fails to do his part. with him not completing his part another member must take on his work to finish. Also if a person isn't able to go certain places or is to far the group is restricted to an area. There are pros and cons to both options. I had ...
